Men and women of all ages experience excess and unwanted hair. Many women experience this condition on the chin and upper lip areas, in addition to the bikini area, under the arms or on the legs. Men are often affected by excess hair on their back, shoulders or chest, in addition to other facial areas. Men who have problems with ingrown hair on their neck or stray hairs on their cheeks can have a well-groomed look all day long. The “five-o’clock shadow” that is popularly known as the “Miami Vice look” can appear as a fresh, well-groomed beard without requiring daily shaving. A session with the Gentle-Yag laser can effectively remove hair on the beard area for up to two months. We have chosen to use the GentleYAG™ Laser to remove unwanted hair in our office because it is perfect for South Florida living. Patients of all skin types can be safely treated with this laser, including people with darkly pigmented or tanned skin.
GENTLEYAG™ LASER
The Candela GentleYAG system is a revolutionary, high-energy laser that treats unwanted hair while protecting surrounding skin. The targeted therapeutic heat from the beam of high-intensity light is gentle on the skin tissue, as a result of Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), which uses a cooling burst of cryogen to protect the upper layers of the skin. The GentleYAG laser is also beneficial for those who want to eliminate vascular lesions and wrinkles. Veins may disappear in only one treatment. Wrinkle removal requires several sessions with the GentleYAG™ laser.
Treatment sessions last between a few minutes and an hour. Some patients may feel a slight discomfort during treatment that will improve immediately. Topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment in patients who are sensitive to pain or in patients with areas with very thick dark hair. Multiple treatments are required for permanent hair removal, since the process is effective only when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Any redness after treatment will disappear within a couple of hours, after each session.
